FAQ

Question Hello there I am currently in England but spend a lot of time in Jerez . Is it possible to apply for residency without being present, my son is resident already could he do this for me?

Answer Basically, you do not need to apply for residence permits if you are either self employed or employed. The reason for this, is because if you are employed or self employed you will be paying your taxes, social security etc. in Spain and therefore you can prove anywhere that you are resident for tax purposes. If you are not employed or self employed you should apply for a residence permit, as this will allow you to prove that you are resident in Spain . However, EU and EEA nationals who are living in Spain but are not working or studying will still need to apply for official resident status in Spain at the nearest police station (comisaría de policía nacional). At the police station you should go to the foreigners' department where you may find someone who speaks English, although in remote areas inland this is less likely. You will be given a form to complete and need to provide the following documents: Your passport and 1 photocopy of your passport, 4 passport photographs, plus, depending on your status in Spain, proof that you have sufficient funds to support yourself, bank statements, and proof of medical insurance or that you're entitled to medical treatment under the Spanish public health system.
